“Millionaire Matchmaker”

Working out kinks in print editions. In the meantime, I’ve been asked to comment on “Millionaire Matchmaker,” the reality TV show featuring rich guys (usually) paying to meet attractive ladies. First, it’s reality TV – so what you see is what the producers think will entertain you. The matchmaker, Patti, tries to coach the clients but usually doesn’t get far in changing their dysfunctional behavior. The candidates are gamely trying, but they get no help at all other than appearance suggestions made in a tactless way. Really, they all need to read my book, and stay away from artificial speed-dating setups! While it can be entertaining, it would only be by amazing accident that anyone on it found a relationship through it.

I’m technically a millionaire several times over. Being a millionaire today does not make you rich, and several of her clients reek of unstable finances. You do reality TV because you think exposure helps you, and really wealthy clients wouldn’t bother.

“The Millionaire Matchmaker,” Season 7.
