This will not surprise anyone, but further research demonstrates that inhibited, shy children tend to become anxious adults. Part of this is likely inherited hypersensitivity of the nervous system–one notable example being the “shy, blue-eyed boy” syndrome linked with ADD.
While I wrote Bad Boyfriends with the emphasis on early caregiver effects on attachment type, there are clearly some genetic components and predispositions to attachment types.
